Founding-Member Offer Terms
The short version: Sign up for a SoloCogs family plan on or before 31 August 2026 and the price you start on is locked for as long as your subscription stays continuously active - even as we raise standard prices and add more content. Schools and tutors have their own founding & pilot terms by agreement.
Who runs SoloCogs: SoloCogs is the brand name for the online learning platform operated by Portsdown Tuition, a sole-trader business based in Portsmouth, England. Throughout these terms, "Portsdown Tuition", "we", "us", and "our" refer to the operator and legal entity, and "SoloCogs" refers to the platform, service, and brand.

1. What the founding-member offer is
To thank the families, schools and tutors who back SoloCogs early, anyone who signs up within the founding window gets founding-member pricing locked for life, plus a 2-month free trial on the front end. In plain terms:
- Start free for 2 months. No card is charged during the trial. Cancel before the trial ends and no payment is taken. See our Terms & Conditions section 4 for the full auto-renewal detail.
- Lock the founding price. The monthly (or annual) price you begin paying after the trial will not go up for as long as your subscription stays continuously active - even after we raise our standard prices and add new content (further GCSE tiers, the Separate Sciences, and additional exam boards as they launch).
2. The founding window & who's eligible
- The founding window is open now and closes at 23:59 (UK time) on 31 August 2026, ahead of the 26/27 school year. We may extend this date; we will not bring it forward without notice.
- To qualify, you must start a SoloCogs subscription on or before that date. A subscription that begins with a free trial qualifies as long as the trial is started within the window and then converts to a paid plan.
- The consumer founding offer is open to families and home educators in the United Kingdom. Schools, MATs, Local Authorities and tutoring businesses are covered by section 6 instead.
3. What "locked for life" means
Your founding price is tied to your subscription staying continuously active. Specifically:
- We will not increase the recurring price of your plan while your subscription remains active, regardless of any later increases to our standard prices.
- The lock applies to the plan you're on. If you change tier (for example, upgrade from a single-child to a family plan, or from SoloLab to SoloLab + SoloCognition), the new tier is charged at the founding rate for that tier where one applies, otherwise at the current price.
- If you deliberately cancel your subscription, the founding price ends when you next resubscribe (you're welcome back any time - a fresh subscription would be at the then-current standard price).
- If your subscription lapses because of a failed payment, we do not treat that as a cancellation straight away. We retry the payment, then contact you by email under Payment Services Regulations 2017 to give you a chance to update your card. Your founding price is only lost if the payment issue is not resolved within 60 days of the first failure - and we will tell you clearly, in writing, before that happens.
- The founding rate covers the child or children enrolled on your founding subscription during the window. It does not extend to a child who needs a new subscription later — for example a younger sibling starting secondary school after 31 August 2026 — who is charged at the standard price of the day.
- The lock is personal to your account and is non-transferable. It has no cash value and cannot be exchanged.
- The founding rate does not stack with any other discount, voucher or promotional code we may run later. Where another offer would otherwise apply, you keep whichever single discount is greater — they don't combine.
4. Which plans it applies to
The founding offer applies to SoloCogs consumer (family) subscriptions - the single-child and family plans. Full pricing is published on the homepage and in the FAQ. It does not apply to school, MAT, Local Authority or tutoring-company licences, which are covered by section 6.
5. Founding discount codes
From time to time we may issue a founding discount code (for example, a set amount off per child). Where we do:
- The code is entered at sign-up and, once redeemed on an active subscription, the discount is honoured for the life of that subscription under the same continuous-subscription condition in section 3.
- Codes are non-transferable, have no cash value, and cannot be combined with other offers unless we say so. We may limit the number of codes or withdraw an unissued code from circulation at any time. Codes we have already issued to a named person - by email, on the sign-up page, or by direct link - remain valid until the code's stated expiry date; we will not revoke an issued code before its expiry except where the code has clearly been misused (for example, publicly shared in bulk).
- One founding code applies per account unless stated otherwise.
6. Schools & tutor pilots
Schools, MATs, Local Authorities and tutoring businesses that come on board during the founding window are offered founding rates and, where appropriate, a discounted or free pilot term - typically in exchange for structured feedback and, where separately agreed, a case study or reference. Pilot scope, pricing, data-processing terms and duration are set out in a separate written agreement for each organisation, which takes precedence over these consumer terms. Get in touch at hello@solocogs.co.uk to arrange one.
7. Changes to this offer
We may change, extend or withdraw the founding offer at any time before you sign up - for example, if we cap the number of founding places. Once you have signed up within the founding window, the price-lock promised to you under these terms is honoured for as long as the conditions above are met. If we ever need to change these terms for existing founding members, we will only do so where required by law or to your benefit, and we'll tell you first.
8. Fair use
We may withhold or revoke the founding price where an account is set up or used in breach of our Terms of Service - for example fraudulent sign-ups, or sharing one account across unrelated households to dodge the per-child limit.
9. How this fits with our other policies
These terms sit alongside, and do not replace, our Terms of Service, Refund & Cancellation Policy and Privacy Policy. Nothing here limits your statutory rights under UK consumer law. Where those rights are more generous than this offer, they apply.
Questions about the founding offer? Email hello@solocogs.co.uk and we'll answer directly. The promise is simple: get in before 31 August 2026 and the price you start on is the price you keep.
